Amadou has a business, of sorts, in buying mobiles and selling them again. Hopefully for a profit. One night he returns to the compound swinging a (live) chicken in each hand. He’d sold a mobile to a man for two chickens and 100 dalasis. Amadou is pleased. He tells me if he can get nine chickens he can change them for a goat.
This sounds like something out of a video game, one of those ones where a hundred fruits becomes a crystal or something. Or maybe it’s a math problem: If 1 mobile = 2 chickens and 9 chickens = 1 goat, how many mobiles must Amadou sell before he gets a goat?
